October Stand Down for Homeless Vets to be held in Nashua

I have reserved a table for NH HOTH at the VAMC Stand-down on October 21, 2009 at Harbor Homes, 45 High St, Nashua. Event goes on from 10 AM until 3 PM. We will be trying to identify Vets and find out their needs, how to contact them or find them, and to direct them to services we know of that could help them.

The event will take place at Harbor Homes in Nashua in their main building. The event will have nurses, haircuts, lawyers, service providers, clothes, food, VA eligibility, VA benefits – you name it – basically a one stop shopping model where a person can get hooked up to the supports and care they need to assist them with getting back on their feet.

The VA has managed to get some surplus military sleeping bags and other equipment (blankets, shoes, boots, clothing, canteens, etc) to give to Vets who are not in shelters. However, they are not objecting to donations for additional camping equipment. You can bring them to the VAMC Homeless people, or to the event, and they can be added to the handouts.

They would also like Dunkin Donuts, Subway, Quiznos, etc, prepaid cards for food to give to these homeless Vets.
